Best Winery Stays and Agritourism Guest Houses in Albania

privacy-policy-disclaimers

One of the best ways to experience authentic Albanian culture and hospitality is to stay at a winery or agritourism guest house. Winery and agritourism stays in Albania offer amazing food and wine, are in stunning locations, and give visitors a chance to see rural traditions in action.

Albania has fantastic wineries and agritourism restaurants. They are very popular with Albanians (go on a Sunday and you’ll see how busy they are), but not many tourists know about them. They are a hidden gem of Albania!

Best Winery Stays and Agritourism Guest Houses in Albania

Staying at a winery or agritourism guest house in Albania is a special experience. These are small, family run boutique properties. They feel personal and authentic. You can expect a very warm welcome, farm to table food and incredible scenery.

These are my personal favourite winery and agritourism stays in Albania:

1. Blerina’s Agritourism Concept (Tirana County)

Guest rooms on the ground level have their own terrace

Blerina Farm is one of the best agritourism restaurants in Albania, and they recently opened a guest house on the property. Everything about Blerina is top notch, and the guest rooms are beautiful.

This guest house is perfect if you want to eat very well. There are two exceptional farm to table restaurants using organic ingredients. Toka is adults only (one of the best meals I’ve ever had was there) and the more rustic, but equally as good, Blerina Farm.

This is also a great agritourism for families. There’s farm animals, orchards, a playground and family friendly rooms. Very convenient location only 9 km from the Tirana International Airport.

Check availability and prices at Blerina’s Agritourism Concept.

2. Vila Shehi Winery & Vineyard (Tirana County)

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay on your first or last day in Albania, but don’t want to go into Tirana, this is it . The winery is 13 km from the airport and serves excellent food. You can completely unwind and enjoy the wine, food and comfortable bed.

Vila Shehi is a small, family run vineyard. Guests can do a wine tasting, tour the orchards and have dinner. It’s a casual, but very comfortable guest house and winery.

Check availability and prices at Vila Shehi Winery & Vineyard.

3. Agroturizem Gjepali (Durres County)

Agritourism Gjepali has a spectacular setting

This lovely countryside agritourism looks like a French Chateau. The guest house is surrounded by green hills and fields in all directions. It’s incredibly peaceful.

There are 8 comfortable guest rooms, an excellent and very popular farm to table restaurant, and they produce their own wine.

When I was there in early March it was still cold, so I spent my time indoors, but the grounds are beautiful and it would be so nice to eat outside, or just relax and enjoy the stunning views in warmer weather.

Agroturizem Gjepali is 14 km from Durres, and not far from Tirana International Airport. Very convenient location.

Check availability and prices at Agroturizem Gjepali.

4. La Reserve by Duka Winery (Durres County)

At La Reserve you’ll enjoy a private villa surrounded by vineyards next to a small lake – and a well regarded winery and restaurant too. It’s the same owners as five star Grand Duka Hotel & Spa in Durres, so you know it’s going to be nice.

I haven’t been to La Reserve yet. It was on my list the last time I was in Durres, but I ran out of time. I have been to their Durres hotel and tasted Duka wine at the Berat Wine Festival – both very good.

Check availability and prices at La Reserve Duka Winery.

5. Alpeta Agrotourizem & Winery (Berat County)

In my opinion, Alpeta Winery is one of the most charming and bucolic winery stays in Albania. This is my favourite winery guest house near Berat.

The location is exceptionally beautiful. It’s in the little village of Roshnik and all around are rolling hills, vineyards and views of snow-capped Mt Tomorr. Guest rooms are in private villas, comfortable and upscale with gorgeous views.

I also ate here, and while it wasn’t my favourite agritourism lunch, breakfast was fine. For a really excellent dinner eat at Kodra e Gjelber, just 8 minutes drive away.

But do enjoy a wine tasting here. Tastings are at 6 pm on the outdoor terrace and include tours of the vineyard and cellar. It’s kind of magical with the terrace completely covered in a canopy of grape vines.

Check availability and prices at Alpeta Agrotourizem & Winery.

6. Nurellari Winery (Berat County)

Guest rooms at Nurellari Winery are large

I really like this winery – it was my favourite wine tasting near Berat. It’s located just outside the tiny village of Fushe-Peshtan, surrounded by countryside. It’s a great base for exploring nearby vineyards.

Guest rooms in this winery stay are spacious and comfortable. If you want to really dig into Albania’s viticulture, Nurellari Winery is where to go. There is real dedication and passion to produce the best wine possible. I learned a lot about wine making when I was there.

One note: when I visited they were about to embark on a large construction project of a second underground cellar. You may want to check and make sure this will not impact your stay.

Check availability and prices at Nurellari Winery Cellar.

7. Pupa Winery & Guest House (Berat County)

Pupa Winery is a traditional countryside estate

Pupa Winery has got one of the nicest guest houses I’ve seen in Albania. The property feels likes a countryside estate. Rooms are tastefully decorated, large with balconies overlooking the vineyard and rolling hills.

Guests can take the vineyard tour at dusk and have a tasting and dinner on the outdoor terrace. The indoor dining room is beautiful too and perfect for colder weather.

Check prices and availability at Pupa Winery & Guest House.

8. Gle-Alb Agroturizem (Gjirokaster County)

I’ve got to admit I have not been to Gle-Alb Agroturizem yet. It’s outside of Tepelene, an area that I plan to explore on an upcoming trip. But the agritourism and guest house are very highly regarded.

The views look incredible – and they have a pool, which is a rarity for a wine stay or agritourism in Albania.

Check availability and prices at Gle-Alb Agroturizem.

9. Kantina & Ferma Dukat (Vlore County)

This is a great overnight stop if you’re exploring the beaches around Vlore (like Radhime or Orikum), or the archeological site of Orikum. It’s a winery and restaurant, so you can have a tasting and fabulous meal without having to leave the property.

I wanted to come here when I was visiting the archeological site of Orikum, but they don’t open for the season until May 1st. I’m usually in this part of Albania in spring, so it’s still on my list for a future trip.

Check availability and prices at Kantina & Ferma Dukat.

10. Agroturizem Via Egnatia (Elbasan County)

If you are driving south from Tirana to the Albanian RivieraBerat or Gjirokaster this agritourism guest house is on the way and a great place to stop.

Where this property really shines is its whole farm approach – they have olives, fruit and walnut trees, vegetables and animals. Guests experience farm life, and it’s great for children. There’s even a couple of communist era tunnels on site.

The restaurant is one of Albania’s best farm to table spots. Everything is made on site, including the jams, cheese and bread. The breakfast is fabulous.

Check availability and prices at Agroturizem Via Egnatia.

11. Mrizi i Zanave (Lezhe County)

For a truly special and upscale experience this is the farm stay to come to. Rooms are beautiful with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the rolling hills and farm. And the food? Truly exceptional.

Mrizi i Zanave restaurant is the most famous, and many say the best agritourism restaurant in Albania. The beautiful setting and dedication to traditional farming and the local community make it the gold star of Albanian agritourism.

There’s geese and chickens running around, children’s play area, excellent farm shop, and they’re dog friendly.

Check availability and prices at Mrizi i Zanave.

12. Agroturizem Hylli i Drites (Lezhe County)

This is another well regarded agritourism and guest house. It’s in the beautiful Lezhe area, and a perfect location if you want to go wine tasting and try other farm to table restaurants.

Rooms are simple, but large and have stunning views of the countryside and hills.

Check availability and prices at Agroturizem Hylli i Drites.

13. Villa Gjecaj (Theth, Shkoder County)

Beautiful outdoor dining at Villa Gjecaj in Theth

This family run guest house and agritourism is right in the mountain village of Theth. The rooms are comfortable and traditional with stunning views of the Accursed Mountains all around. It’s a perfect base for hiking and exploring.

The restaurant is one of the best in Theth. I had an exceptional meal here and loved eating outside on the grassy lawn.

Check availability and prices at Villa Gjecaj.

14. Melesin Distillery (Korce County)

This is a gorgeous, upscale guest house in the town of Leskovik. The distillery is unique in Albania, specializing in gins made from local juniper berries. Melesin also produces wine and raki. You can do a gin or wine tasting, and there’s a great restaurant on site.

Leskovik is small and off the beaten path, but the region is really beautiful and it’s a great stopover on the way to Korce or Pogradec.

Check prices and availability at Melesin Distillery.

15. Sofra Kolonjare Agroturizem (Korce County)

Sofra Kolonjare is a rustic and charming property in the region of Kolonje, a popular winter destination in Albania. It is cozy, traditional and the guest rooms have fireplaces.

This is one of the best agritourism in Albania. All ingredients used in the food come from the farm, even the dairy and meat. Breads, lakror (savoury pie) and meats are cooked in traditional stone ovens. They grind their own grains and make their own wine.

If you want to work off the excellent food, there’s great hiking all around.

Check availability and prices at Sofra Kolonjare Agroturizem.

16. Nena Dashuri Agritourism (Diber County)

This agritourism guest house is just outside the small city of Peshkopi in north east Albania. Peshkopi is way off the tourist track, but several locals have told me it’s their favourite area of Albania.

The guest house and restaurant are considered a hidden gem, and the property looks stunning: mountains, rolling hills, thermal baths and hiking.

This is another region of Albania I haven’t explored yet, but it’s on my list for an upcoming trip.

Check availability and prices at Nena Dashuri Agritourism.

Why Stay at a Winery or Agritourism Guest House

There are so many reasons to add an agritourism or winery stay to your Albania itinerary. Try it once, and I think you’ll want to do it all the time!

  • Authentic hospitality. Owners treat visitors like guests in their home.
  • Farm to table dining. Breads, cheese, olive oil, jams and meats produced on site or locally.
  • Beautiful locations in vineyards, historic villages, and mountain views.
  • Fantastic wine. Albania has an amazing viticulture and many indigenous grapes.
  • Rural immersion experiences. Guests can learn about traditional farming, see how local products are made, and participate in the grape or olive harvesting.
  • Great value. Most of these guest houses offer excellent value and include a hearty breakfast.
  • Free parking.

When to Visit Winery Stays and Agritourism Guest Houses in Albania

These are good to say in all year round, though some are not open off season.

Spring and autumm are the best times – owners have more time for guests and prices are lower. September and October are good if you want to experience a grape or olive harvest.

Most tourists don’t stay in the Albanian countryside, so there’s a better chance of getting a reservation in peak season. These stays are popular with Albanians, though – especially the diaspora returning for holidays. It’s best to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Last Words on Best Winery Stays and Agritourism Guest Houses in Albania

I think agritourism and winery stays are the best places to stay in Albania. I love the authentic hospitality, wine and food and most of all being in the countryside, off the beaten path. You’ll see a side of Albania most visitors miss.
